| Background/Experience: |
| After playing two years for Les Bolstad at the University of Minnesota, Jim began his professional career in 1965 at the White Bear Yacht Club, where he taught professionally for two years. Starting in 1967, he taught at the Midland Hills Country Club until 1976, when he assumed the duties of Head Professional. He has been a full-time instructor for the past 11 years, mostly at the University of Minnesota. Jim has won tournaments in the last six decades, including the Section Match Play title in 1981, the Senior Stroke and Match Play titles in 1993, when he was Senior Player of the Year, and the 1999 Wisconsin Senior Stroke Play title in 1999. He has finished in the top ten of every Major State Championship.
Jim has also received extensive training from Ken Venturi, with whom he has maintained a friendship since 1957. He has coached Karen Weiss and Kate Hughes to LPGA careers, and several other players to multiple state titles. In 2006, Jim was awarded the Minnesota Section Teacher of the Year honor, and the PGA of America's highest honor: the Golf Professional of the Year. |
